Get on Board!
Your Talents | Your Passion | Your Community
This community connections event, formally known as Speed Boarding, will connect community organizations seeking skilled volunteers, passionate community trustees, and board members to those ready to serve. Leadership Pikes Peak loves connecting leaders (present and future) with each other. Your talents combined with your passion will serve an organization and ultimately our community, well.
This free event will link you to service in your community.
Community members: it's time to Get on a Board! You have talents, skills, and time an organization is ready for. If you are unsure of how or where to serve, you need to attend this event! While in attendance, please visit each of the organization's tables to learn more about their mission. Their mission may align with your life mission, why, and passion. Do you know your why? Discover it here.
Skills-based volunteering (SBV) is when volunteers contribute their professional skills, often providing expertise to directly supporting a nonprofit’s internal operations, strengthening the infrastructure and capacity of the organization. SBV is a powerful driver of social change, and is a unique approach to community engagement that matches employees’ workplace skills, expertise and knowledge with nonprofit needs to increase their impact in the community. By leveraging all types of skills, from IT support and strategic planning to marketing and HR consulting, SBV helps nonprofits expand their reach and become more sustainable, while allowing employees an opportunity to build their leadership skills, and give back to a cause they believe in.
Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve….You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love. —Martin Luther King, Jr.
The more generous we are, the more joyous we become. The more cooperative we are, the more valuable we become. The more enthusiastic we are, the more productive we become. The more serving we are, the more prosperous we become. -William Arthur Ward

“Leadership Pikes Peak Speed Boarding event is a great opportunity to meet local non-profits looking for new board members. As a young professional I attended the Speed Boarding event and found a place on the Pikes Peak Children’s Museum Board that met my passion for helping children. It’s been a learning experience and I highly suggest that anyone looking to get more involved in the Colorado Springs community look to attend. Out of the event I had several opportunities to volunteer and got to select the one that best fit me.”
“Since graduating from LNOW! in 2011, I’ve been inspired to become involved with the Colorado Springs community. I started off by volunteering with a couple of nonprofits, but found that I wanted to contribute more. I heard about the Speed Boarding event and decided to give it a shot. To be honest I was nervous to go. I had the preconceived idea that only well-established professionals served on Boards; I was one-hundred percent wrong. Speed Boarding is an excellent way to connect with multiple organizations that share a common interest with your own. I connected really well with two different nonprofits and decided to join the Board for Special Kids Special Families. It’s been almost a year, and during this time I have learned a lot while contributing to an organization whose mission I strongly support. If you are someone who is eager to support our community, I highly recommend Speed Boarding.”
